Join collage artist Selina Alko as she shared her newest book Otherwise Known as Judy the Great, a poetic picture book tribute to the one and only Judy Blume. Like millions of readers around the world, Selina found guidance and comfort in Judy’s stories as she navigated the ups and downs of growing up. This inspiring collection of poems shines a light on Judy Blume’s childhood years and the experiences that shaped her as a storyteller. During this presentation, Selina will read the book aloud, share insights into her creative process, offer a live drawing demonstration, and give a peek into her mixed-media sketchbooks.

Who You'll Meet

Selina Alko

Selina Alko is an award-winning author and illustrator known for blending lyrical text with vibrant mixed-media art to explore themes of identity, social justice, and hope. Raised in Vancouver, Canada, she grew up surrounded by diverse cultures, languages, and creative influences. After studying Illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York, she has gone on to create more than 25 children’s books. Her work has received a National Jewish Book Award and a Silver Medal from the Society of Illustrators. Selina’s books include The Case for Loving, I Is for Immigrants, and Joni: The Lyrical Life of Joni Mitchell. She lives in Brooklyn.
