Best friends Juana Martinez-Neal and Molly Idle know a thing or two about collaborative art. They are acclaimed Caldecott Honor-winning children’s book author-illustrators who frequently collaborate on art projects. They co-illustrated the picture book I Don’t Care by Julie Fogliano and partnered on the collaborative book Off the Wall: Making Stuff Together, which they will share with The Carle in this Special Storytime!

Molly Idle

Molly Idle

Molly Idle is the author and illustrator of the Caldecott Honor-winning picture book Flora and the Flamingo, and all of the stories featuring Flora and her feathered friends. She’s also the creator of the Tea Rex series, the mermaid tale Pearl, and the magical Witch Hazel. Molly lives in sunny Arizona with her marvelous, multigenerational family where she can be found in her workshop with a pencil in one hand and a cup of espresso in the other- scribbling away on her next picture book!

Juana Martinez-Neal

Juana Martinez-Neal is the daughter and granddaughter of painters. She is the recipient of the 2019 Caldecott Honor for Alma and How She Got Her Name (Candlewick Press), her debut picture book as author-illustrator. She is also a New York Times bestselling illustrator recipient of the 2020 Robert F. Sibert Medal for Fry Bread: A Native American Story (Roaring Brook) and the 2018 Pura Belpré Medal for Illustration for La Princesa and the Pea (Putnam). Juana was born in Lima, the capital of Peru, and now lives in Connecticut, with her husband and three children.
