Exploring Indigenous Stories in Picture Books

$42.50 for Museum Members

(3 PDPs) Learn how to share picture books that celebrate and accurately reflect Indigenous histories and identities. Participants will explore our special book installation Entwined Memory: Indigenous Stories of Creation, Place, and Continuity, consider criteria for sourcing and selecting books, and discover strategies for engaging young readers in productive, informed conversations about Indigenous cultures. Participants will also receive booklists and other resources for building a more equitable, inclusive book collection.

A limited number of workshop spots are free for preschool teachers and elementary teachers in Title 1 Schools through The Carle Community Fund. Scholarships are awarded at random and offered on a quarterly basis. Application deadline is April 15.

Eleanor Owl Stolzoff

Eleanor Owl Stolzoff (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians) is a Curatorial and Program Assistant at The Carle. She was also the 2025 Special Project Trinkett Clark intern. A student at Amherst College, she majors in American Studies and Law, Jurisprudence, and Social Thought, in addition to obtaining the 5 College NAIS Certificate.
