Enjoy an extra special evening at The Carle with art, music, dancing, and food!
As part of Summer at The Carle, every Thursday in July and August we provide evening access to the entire museum—from the Galleries and Art Studio to The Carle Bookshop and Bobbie’s Meadow.
On this very special evening, we welcome our community partner Chinese Association of Western Massachusetts (CAWM) to offer a medley of activities celebrating Chinese art and culture in conjunction with our exhibition currently on view, The Art of Grace Lin: Meeting a Friend in an Unexpected Place. Art projects in the Art Studio include calligraphy and origami, while performances include:
- Kung Fu with The Chinese Kung Fu Wushu Academy: The Chinese Kung Fu Wushu Academy is actively involved in the local community, and its young students are not only dedicated learners but also outstanding performers who bring energy and spirit to every stage.
- Traditional Chinese Dance with the Xi Wang Dance Company: In addition to their training, Xi Wang Dance Company students actively participate in community performances, dance competitions, and theater productions, gaining valuable stage experience and sharing the beauty of Chinese dance with the wider community.
- Waist Drum Dance with the Chinese Association of Western Massachusetts: Waist drum dance is a traditional Chinese folk art with a history of over 2,000 years. Performers wear a drum around their waist and create lively, rhythmic beats with drumsticks as they dance. Known for its energetic movements and powerful drumming, this performance brings both spirit and tradition to life.
Performances will take place in the courtyard. Bring your own blankets or lawn chairs, enjoy your picnic in Bobbie’s Meadow or The Carle Café, or sample Chinese food from a local caterer, available while they last.
Summer Nights at The Carle is made possible through the generous support of Greenfield Savings Bank.
