Children’s Book Week Posters
Since 1919, the Children’s Book Council, a non-profit trade association, has annually commissioned some of the most beloved children’s book illustrators to design posters that encourage reading. On view are twenty-six posters, from Jessie Wilcox Smith’s scene of idyllic childhood (1920) to Emily Arnold McCully’s image of protesting children (1969). The posters provide clues to the history, social climate, and wider concerns of the country during the eras represented.
