The Carle commemorates the 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter’s birth with A Keen Sense of Wonder: Reality and Fantasy in the Art of Beatrix Potter. Potter was an avid painter of flora, fauna, and landscapes; she documented the natural world around her with precision and intellectual passion. This exhibition of digital reproductions explores how Potter’s unpublished scientific studies influenced and enhanced her picture book illustrations. Discover how Potter seamlessly balanced her landscape paintings of the Lake District in northern England and her anatomically accurate sketches of animals with her own fantastic imagination to create the series of children’s books for which she is beloved and remembered.
