Process: From Person to Pencil to Published
May 13 - December 10, 2006
Every picture-book illustration starts with a thumbnail sketch, diagram, or rough idea. Even the simplest published page is the culmination of much trial and error. This exhibition examines the inspirational materials, failed ideas, and creative sparks that produce successful children’s book illustrations. The show focuses on the work of four leading illustrators: Kadir Nelson (He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands, 2005), Brian Selznick (Walt Whitman: Words for America, 2004), Mo Willems (Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale, 2004), and Betsy Lewin (Animal Snackers, 2004).
