Silent Cat
Why Cats? For one thing, languid and sinuous, cats tend to be willing models; many artists keep cats in their studio. Then there is the gracefulness of cats, their self-composure, and their knowingness. More than a few artists have talked about what cats have taught them. To honor this notion of the late Eden Ross Lipson, children’s book editor at the New York Times for many years, The Carle has mounted a display of pages reproduced from pertinent books here in the reading library. Artists include Eric Carle, Leo and Diane Dillon, Trina Schart Hyman, Patricia Polacco, David Small and David Wiesner.
