Join author Nancy Churnin as she discusses Dear Mr. Dickens and the true story of Eliza Davis - a young woman who used the power of her pen to speak out against unfair portrayals of Jewish characters by Charles Dickens. Churnin will share how she found this little-known story, why she was drawn to it, what it has meant to her personally, and how it is inspiring children around the world to speak up and make their voices heard.

Dear Mr.Dickens is the winner of the 2021 National Jewish Book Award and part of The Carle’s current book exhibition Dear Reader: Picture Books & Letter Writing.

Nancy Churnin

Nancy Churnin is an award-winning children’s book author who writes about people who have made the world a better place and inspire children to be heroes and heroines, too. Her Dear Mr. Dickens won the 2021 National Jewish Book Award and 2022 Sydney Taylor Honor and is a Junior Library Guild Selection, a National Federation of Press Women 1st Place winner and on the Bank Street College Best Children’s Books list. Nancy lives in North Texas.
