A Zoom tour of Finding Nura: Rediscovering an American Modernist from the Kendra and Allan Daniel Collection, with the Grolier Club. Drawn from the remarkable holdings of the Daniels, and curated by H. Nichols B. Clark, this exhibition re-establishes the reputation of long-forgotten but highly esteemed Nura Woodson Ulreich.

Known simply as “Nura,” this artist specialized in alluring and very individualized interpretations of childhood. Her modernist approach, acquired from her time in Paris in the 1920s, resulted in stylized images of children, whom she portrayed with animals, books, and musical instruments, but rare adults. Her figures are distinguished by their rounded forms, rosy cheeks, and wavy hair, shown in ethereal landscapes and indistinct interior settings. Nura’s compositions captured an essence of childhood imbued with innocence and enigma.

This will be a live online event, and all attendees will receive an email with the link the day of the event. For those unable to join us for the session, the lecture will be recorded and made available a few weeks after the event on the Grolier Club’s Vimeo page.
