In celebration of Black Music Month, special guest and illustrator Jerrard K. Polk will connect kids to the instruments and musical flair of jazz using samples of art from his book, A Child’s Introduction to Jazz: The Musicians, Culture, and Roots of the World’s Coolest Music, written by Jabari Asim. He will also show how he creates his illustrations. You won’t want to miss this fun and interactive program!

Jerrard K. Polk

Born and raised in Charlotte, NC, Polk’s love of illustration was cultivated by many skilled art teachers and mentors, while his love of books and poetry was encouraged by his mother, a librarian. He loves combining traditional and digital illustration to tell little known stories of everyday people to encourage children from all cultures.
