During this two-session virtual workshop, K-12 teachers will explore the children’s book trend in metafiction, especially in picturebooks and The Carle’s special exhibition, Pictures at Play: Metafiction in Art.

At its base, the term metafiction simply means fiction about fiction.  Participants will explore the ways that metafiction invites readers to become aware of how story works and discuss current research on metafiction and children’s critical reading skills. The group will also look at techniques as nesting, breaking the fourth wall, playing with font, and referring to other well-known texts that actively position the reader as co-creator.

This is a 2-day virtual session, taking place September 24 and October 1 from 7:00 - 8:30 pm Eastern.
